Bandung, 12 November 2025 – Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia-Department of Library and Information Science. The Department of Library and Information Science (LIS), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), recently conducted a TOEFL Preparation Workshop designed to strengthen students’ English proficiency as an essential requirement for graduation and academic advancement.
The program was held in two sessions- online and offline- for both Class A and Class B of the 3rd semester LIS students. The sessions aimed to provide students with practical guidance, exposure to test simulations, and effective strategies to improve their TOEFL scores.
The offline session was graced by Hj. Susanti Agustina, Ph.D, lecturer and course instructor for English for Librarianship, who emphasized that English competence is not merely a graduation requirement but a gateway to global opportunities in the library and information field. She highlighted the importance of consistent practice, strategic learning, and emotional readiness in facing standardized English assessments.
In collaboration with Mr. Andrian Permadi, M.Pd. from AP Academy, the workshop featured interactive practice sessions where students learned valuable tips and tricks for answering TOEFL questions effectively. Participants had the chance to experience real test conditions and engage directly with instructors to clarify common challenges in listening, structure, and reading sections.
At the end of the session, Dr. Susanti invited students to engage in a short learning reflection, encouraging them to assess their progress and emotional preparedness as part of a preventive and motivational step toward achieving the university’s required TOEFL standard.

The students responded enthusiastically-many expressed that the session provided them with renewed confidence and a clearer understanding of how to approach the TOEFL systematically. The combination of technical training and reflective practice helped them see the test not as an obstacle, but as an opportunity to measure growth and readiness for professional excellence.
Through this initiative, the Department of Library and Information Science reaffirms its commitment to equipping students with the linguistic and intellectual competencies needed to excel in both local and international academic environments.
The TOEFL Preparation Workshop for LIS Students aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). This initiative promotes inclusive and equitable quality education by enhancing students’ English proficiency—an essential skill for academic success and global engagement. By integrating technical TOEFL training with reflective learning, the workshop fosters not only linguistic competence but also critical thinking, confidence, and emotional readiness. The collaboration between the Department of Library and Information Science, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, and AP Academy exemplifies a strategic educational partnership that empowers students to compete and collaborate internationally, thereby advancing global competence within the field of Library and Information Science.
Practice, Reflect, and Achieve Building Competence through English Mastery.
